While prepping the Galaxy S5 review, I wanted to touch on the new rear camera. Samsung has upgraded from the 13MP shooter on the GS4 and moved onto a 16MP shooter capable of recording 4K video. During my time with it, I went out and took photos and recorded some video to see how well it actually performs. And this is without the use of the various camera modes and features as well.

Samsung was looking to innovate by using a different type of lens for their rear camera on the S5 w/ a 16MP ISOCELL lens. Some background on ISOCELL technology, its more or less a next-gen backside illuminated sensor technology. As it is supposed to offer better color reproduction, better dynamic range, and improved low-light performance. But enough about that, let’s see how well it actually performs.

The ISOCELL technology does improve on the color accuracy but doesn’t do much of anything for low-light performance. So if you’re worried about your pics on the go not coming out so well. Don’t. The Galaxy S5 shooter will hold you down…for the most part.

Expect more coverage on the camera’s software features in the full review. Which should be up sometime next week.

Are you guys impressed by what you saw here? Sound off in the comments.
