Normally at TGSB, we don’t really post stories about the politics of the tech world. I for one, HATE politics as it’s involves more corruption than every John Grisham book combined multiplied by 1 million. However, this is something serious, and warrants mentioning. The cable companies are looking to have the government regulate the internet. They would like to charge companies for “faster” access to their customers. What that means is they want to charge companies like Facebook, Twitter, Netflix and Google (YouTube & Twitch) for the right to send content to us, the consumers, at “faster” speeds. The cable industry is wording this as a fast lane, slow lane kind of thing. But in all actuality, it will be the difference between an open road with no speed limit versus Driving Miss Daisy. This is terrible for the internet and everyone who uses it in America.
I could genuinely go on for HOURS about this topic, but I know you guys are always tired of reading it from me. John Oliver, a late night TV Show host on HBO (think John Stewart but can actually swear on TV) did a great piece on the subject. It’s a little over 13 minutes long and ridiculously funny. Check it out. Credit to the find of this video clip goes to Phil over at Android Central
