Today Sonos announced an update that will begin rolling out that will eliminate having to plug something into your router. This is v5.1 of the software for those of your keeping count. This will make your mobile app the absolute center of your Sonos system.
Sonos cuts its cord and now allows you to truly become wireless.
Previously it had to be either your speaker or Bridge. Now this doesn’t make your Bridge useless, its just now an optional setup rather than a mandatory one. So this makes investing in a Sonos system a lot more affordable in case you didn’t cone across a deal that included the Bridge w/ your purchase.
Also, Sonos is working on something else called Boost. Think of it as the Bridge on steroids. This will give you enterprise-like wireless speeds to enhance you in-home Wi-Fi speeds. Expect it to launch in October for $99.
