Are you a cord-cutter and wanted access to HBO? Don’t have anyone’s HBO credentials to borrow to access HBO Go? If you’ve answered Yes to either of those 2 questions, you’re in luck as hell had apparently froze over. CEO Richard Plepler spoke at an investor presentation and said the company will launch a standalone streaming-only subscription in 2015. No word on pricing as of yet.
HBO without cable – finally!
This is more of a reactionary move to the rising growth of Netflix. Investors want more value out of the company even though it already generates $4.9 billion last year alone. This is their way to get inside of the 80 million homes w/o HBO and of course capitalize off of that.
HBO will continue to service cable providers as well as making additional $$$ from those who just want their service only. Being a cord-cutter my self, having Netlfix, Hulu, & HBO Go is quite the triple threat. To the point where I rarely need to go to Redbox to be entertained. This could become a viable option for those of you interested in following suit as well. This will allow you and anyone who’s looking to save some $$$ by clipping their cable service and just subscribing to HBO’s service.
