Yesterday Microsoft unveiled the next release of their OS w/ Windows 10. That’s right. They just skipped 9 and went straight for 10. This new version of Windows will be an experience tailored for all compatible hardware in a single product family. Reaching out to their desktops, laptops, tablets as well as Windows Phone and Xbox.
This puts Microsoft closer to their end game of one OS for all of their platforms/products.
So Live Tiles are still present as Microsoft went and merged the Metro screen of Windows 8 and the Start menu of Windows past into one. Mixing classic and new apps in the process. There’s a Universal Search option available that grabs results from the web as well as local.
They have a new Task Switcher that resembles that of OS X for multitasking. Touchscreen support has been enhanced as well. There’s a new Continuum mode that allows you to switch between tablet and laptop mode on touchscreen Windows devices.
It’s a mesh of Windows 7, Windows 8, and some new tweaks.
Windows 10 isnt officially due out until late next year. Microsoft does have a Windows Insider Program where you guys can get access to the technical preview of the new OS for desktops and laptops. You can sign up here. It may not be ready but keep checking back.
