Previously to access Microsoft Office apps on anything mobile, it required a paid Office 365 subscription but that all changes today. This morning, Microsoft is decided to bring Office to everyone as it is now free of charge. Microsoft wants everyone to use their Office apps as they want as many users as they can get.
Office for iPad gets updated Word, Excel, + PowerPoint apps to support, the iPhone finally gets access to the 3 apps, and finally the Office apps arrive for Android as a preview which you can sign up for today to start using. Don’t fret Windows 10 users as Microsoft is working on a touch-optimized version set to arrive in the near future.
Looks like Microsoft finally realized that the masses aren’t going to pay for something when free alternatives exist. I guess they thought this was the late-90s where this would’ve worked. Of course you get access to the 3 apps while everything else will still require an Office 365 subscription. Microsoft did manage to keep the apps exactly the same across both platforms so there’s that.
So who’s happy about this and will download/update it? Sound off in the comments.
