The Chromebook Pixel was Google’s vision of what a high-end Chromebook should feel + perform like. Despite the terrible battery life, we loved it. It was a touchscreen Retina Chromebook w/ a simple, industrial design.
The folks over at OMG! Chrome! spotted a video from Google on YouTube earlier that was of course pulled. The video is about Google’s TeamWork 2015 event as the company’s Director of Android + Chrome and Google Work Renee Niemi talks about the 2nd coming of the Pixel. In her exact words, she said:
We do have a new Pixel coming out and it will be coming out soon. We will be selling it but I just have to set your expectations: this is a development platform. This is really a proof of concept. We don’t make very many of these — we really don’t. And our developers and our Googlers consume 85% of what we produce. But yes, we do have a new Pixel coming out.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the new Pixel has to offer. But it will be a pricey one. Last year’s model retailed for $1,300. Again, this is more of a reference for developers + manufacturers.
