A few weeks back I was fortunate enough to fly out to Austin, Texas to attend/cover the 2015 Blogging While Brown conference thanks to AT&T. This is a 2-day event that happened on June 19th & 20th. This is my 3rd time attending the conference but it is the 8th one in existence. Our recap on it is long overdue as I’ve hit the ground running since getting back. I attended as part of AT&T’s social correspondent along w/ other digital outlets of color as they rolled out their new #InspiredMobility conversation. Their message is to connect & inspire others using tech which is a principle I believe in wholeheartedly.
AT&T was the one of the sponsors for the conference as they kicked things off w/ Laura Hernandez, Executive Director of Multicultural Marketing at AT&T and ending the day off w/ Grammy Award-winning recording artist Lecrae to talk about how he utilizes technology to keep in touch w/ his family on the road and social media to connect w/ fans.
Definitely took home lots of gems even and plans to implement things on the site, behind the scenes, and business-wise. You can never learn/know enough information. FYI: be on the lookout for some of those changes both big and small to get implemented on our site and our social media outlets. My big takeaways from the conference were attending sessions and learning from experts.
- Tightening up video shooting & editing skills w/ Chip Dizard.
- Everything I needed to know to dive into podcasting w/ Brandy Butler.
- How to get started in creating a successful online course w/ Jennifer Kennedy.
- How to take your blog to radio & TV w/ Danyelle Little aka The Cubicle Chick.
- How to pitch your stories to journalists w/ Jacque Reid.
- How to build $1million dollar blogging empire w/ Lamar & Ronnie Tyler of Black and Married With Kids.
A huge thanks to AT&T for allowing me the opportunity to help spread the word on their Inspired Mobility campaign again this year. Definitely feel fortunate to be part of your social correspondent team.
