Believe it or not, I am still on the hunt for the perfect gaming headphones - at least for my ears.  I have tested several headsets already as they're all great in one or two ways but none over the complete package.  I am gamer at heart but not good enough to play competitive or anything.  I just like to play a few hours out of the day when I can.

This brings me to the latest gaming cans from the folks over at Plantronics: the RIG Flex LX Xbox One Edition.  We've been using these for about a month now and ready to share our thoughts on them.  We'll dive into the design/comfort and the most important thing: the sound.  Time to find out if my hunt is officially over or does it continue.

Design/Comfort

With this headset, Plantronics has a nice mesh of industrial & sporty influence in regards to its design.  They arrive in either Black or White colors w/ fabric-cushioned headband + earcups that rotate 90-degrees to rest comfortably on your shoulders.  If you plan on traveling w/ these cans, they may cause concern as the fabric can fray a bit.

These RIG Flex LX cans were made for both the passing & competitive gamers alike.  So wearing these for a long period can make you a bit on the warm side (or maybe its just me?)  For me, they're pretty comfortable to wear as they weren't too snug or too loose but a great fit overall.

Sound

Plantronics is no stranger to sound quality w/ their long track record of stellar Bluetooth headsets & headphones.  Providing the audio for these cans are a pair of 40mm drivers w/ low-frequency resonators that pumps out big amplified sound.  I've been catching up w/ Destiny getting ready for The Taken King & Gears Of War.

It also ships w/ their LX1 advanced audio adapter that has a Mute button, a volume dial to control both game volume & chat independently, and a 3.5mm jack where you can plug in an audio source to listen to music while you game.  Last but not least, you have 3 EQ modes of pure highs, intense mid-range, or seismic bass.  It also has a swappable inline mic for using this headset for phone calls.

Everything works as advertised, if not better.  The sound on these are sublime.  Bigger & better sound than the previous gaming headsets we've reviewed.  Sounds on all levels from highs, mids, and lows all performed quite remarkable.  You hear what type of guns are being shot in your direction to noises in the distance and so forth.  And w/ everything included, it is the most versatile we've tested thus far.

On the sound side of things, these are in a class by themselves.

TG 2 Cents

So is my hunt over?  No but I am figuring out a lot about what I am looking for and what I am not looking for in a gaming headset.  However when it comes to game audio, I have yet to experience anything like these.  That EQ is so on point to offer an immersive audio experience w/ the options of your desired sound profiles thanks to its audio adapter.  The design & comfort is awesome but nothing has yet to be the Plantronics RIG 500 E for comfort to me.  But on the sound side of things, these are in a class by themselves.  I've even used them for voice-overs for several YouTube videos.  That's how good the sound is. Job well done to the Plantronics team.

To Buy Or Not To Buy

For $129, this is the best audio experience form a gaming headset that I have yet to hear.  The comfort level is good but if you live for gaming audio, look no further than this.  These guys are due out some time next month.
