The new Apple TV gets the complete makeover that it so desperately needed. New hardware and software to make it a damn-near new experience entirely. Apple CEO Tim Cook says the future of TV is apps and that’s the route they’ve gone w/ their new streaming box. The new UI on Apple TV is called TVos and is based off of, you guessed it, iOS.
They just made the Apple TV a lot more fun.
Also coming from iOS is Siri. You can use it for just about anything. From finding content to watch, to specific movies, actors, genres, guest spots/cameo appearances on shows and much, more. The new interface is powered by Apple’s personal assistant to add voice commands into the mix along w/ a physical remote. Speaking of the new remote, its completely redesigned as well. It now has a touch surface on the top half of the remote for easier navigation as it is now called the Siri Remote.
Gaming finally comes to Apple TV as the core gets a lot better too. here’s now support for the same big games from iOS arriving to the new Apple TV that works w/ the Bluetooth-enabled Remote. Apple has brought over Apple Music as well to the mix. Now making the new Apple TV the ultimate in-home entertainment for Apple. The cool thing about it that all apps will work hand-in-hand w/ other iOS devices.
Like start a game on the bus/train on the way home and then finish playing when you get home. The new Apple TV is powered by a 64-bit A8 CPU, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi ac, HDMI, and ethernet connections. It will ship sometime in late October w/ a 32GB model for $149 and a 64GB model for $199.
