As a part of Allo’s companion app, say hello to Google’s new video calling app: Duo.   It is a mobile-only app that is tied to your phone number.  But this is not just a FaceTime clone, Google really made sure to make it their own.

Duo allows you to preview who’s calling before answering.  This feature is called Knock, Knock as it acts as a peephole for your video call.  Definitely, one of the more cooler options offered within a video calling app.  Google made sure to make all conversations to be completely encrypted that can be deleted a la Snapchat style.

On the performance side of things, Google made sure to beef it up so your experience won’t be the same as video calling on Hangouts.  They made sure to optimize the speed & latency so it can work on shitty connections as well as adjust the audio/video quality to match the connection you’re using.

All calls are made at a 720p HD resolution as this along w/ Allo will be out this summer for both Android and iOS.
