Last week HP give us an early look at their new line of gaming PCs w/ their new Omen line. This time around the new moniker takes over all of their gaming hardware of laptops, desktops, and a 32inch QHD monitor.
Kicking things off is a 15.6inch model starting at $899 and weighing in at 4.6lbs. There's also a 17.3inch model that starts at $980 and weighs in at 6.28lbs. They will have plastic cases w/ a Black Shadow Mesh design that kind of looks like carbon fiber and a Red backlit keyboard. Still offering a nice feel w/o metal and other premium materials.
Both laptops will support up to 6th-gen Intel Core i7 CPUs + NVIDIA's GTX 965M GPUs, up to 16GB of RAM, and a choice of up to 512GB SSD or a 2TB HD or a combo of the 2 hard drives. You'll have up to 10 hours of battery life, dual speakers powered by Bang & Olufsen w/ HP Audio Boost, 1 HDMI 2.0, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.1, and an SD card reader. Lastly, you have the option add in an Intel RealSense camera. Both have enough juice to power the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift too BTW.
Moving on to the Omen desktop tower, it looks like a standard tower but is packed w/ a lot of power. You got a brushed metal finish w/ a Red light in the front and ports galore. Inside you have an Intel Core i7-6700K CPU, 32GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD & a 3TB HD, and you can go up to NVIDIA's GTX 1080 or AMD Radeon R9 Fury X GPUs. You got 4 USB 2.0s, 2 USB 3.0s, dual HDMI out, multi-monitor support, a 7-in-1 card reader, and a 1 USB-C on select models. You have the option for liquid water cooling to help out keeping the heat at bay. Pricing for the tower will arrive at a later date.
And lastly, we have the Omen display. It is a 32inch QHD display, a super lightweight panel that's not super thick, and utilizing AMD FreeSync technology to beef up the framerates while gaming. It looks great as I demoed Project Cars w/ the HTC Vive on the panel and the desktop. No word on the pricing for the displays at the moment.
The Omen laptops are set to arrive on July 10th at Best Buy & HP's site as the tower & monitor ain't coming until August. HP said that they aren't done so expect a lot more announcements set to arrive throughout the year.
