Yesterday, Motorola + Verizon held a launch event for the Moto Z Droid & Moto Z Droid Force. We got a chance to demo and leave w/ both devices & all of the available Moto Mods. Here’s our initial reactions to it all.
- The Moto Z Droid is as thin as they say it is. Add on a backplate (not one of the Mods) and it still retains a thin profile but just no longer the thinnest. The Moto Z Droid Force is the beefier big brother. You can feel the weight difference between the 2 as it is a bit thicker but not a brick. The only real differences between the 2 is that the Droid Force offers the 2nd-gen ShatterShield glass, a longer battery life (3500 mAh vs 2600 mAh), and a 21MP rear-shooter instead of the 16MP on the standard Z.
Motorola beat Apple to the punch w/ no headphone jack. USB-C only but Moto provides a 3.5mm adapter w/ it.
- Sounds like Motorola/Lenovo was listening as they made sure to add a shutter button to the camera software. Finally! Along w/ that, the overall camera software got a nice refresh. Not a complete overall but a sweet coat of paint added to it. In regards to the actual camera performance itself, we didn’t really get a chance to scratch the surface so no real thoughts on it as of yet.
- The Moto Mods themselves are solid. They attach to the device that way and stay on that way. No software or whatever needed to connect just snap and begin to use. We’ve only really played w/ the JBL speaker Mod & backplate cover at the time of writing this so expect more on it come review time.
Be on the lookout for more coverage very soon on these 2 along w/ the Mods as well. Let us know what you guys want to see covered/examined thoroughly in the full review.
