We kind of knew it was coming but we didn’t what it would have to offer this time around. The wait is over as earlier today Samsung unveiled the curtains on the Gear S3 smartwatch. The interesting thing about the Gear S2 is that it introduced the bezel navigation to work hand-in-hand w/ the Tizen OS. Other than that, the design wasn’t a head-turner.
Looks like 3rd time is the charm.
This year, things are different. Samsung wanted to make sure they focused on the design & look of the newest Gear so that it looks more like a watch that you could wear to any occasion. At least for the Gear S3 Classic anyways ass you also have the Frontier which offers a sportier look w/ a silicone band, gloss bezel, and flush buttons. There will be an LTE version of the S3 under the Frontier look. Other than that, the 2 versions are identical internally.
Other than that, the 2 versions are identical internally. Both have a 1.5inch circular Super AMOLED display + 278ppi, are running Tizen OS 2.3.2, powered by a dual-core 1GHz CPU, 4GB of storage, 768MB of RAM, IP68 dust/water-resistant, 4-days of juice w/ a 380 mAh battery, NFC + MST for mobile payments like Samsung Pay, and the bands are interchangeable.
Both pricing and availability are unknown but the Gear S3 is set to arrive before the end of the year. At 1st look, it definitely appears that 3rd times is the charm in regards to it hitting a sweet spot. It seems like Samsung is getting nothing but wins this year. Now we have to wait and see what the pricing will look like though.
