Yesterday, Sprint surprised us all by getting into the music streaming game w/ Jay-Z’s Tidal. They announced that they just purchased a 33% stake in the company which would make them 1/3 of an owner. This will also bring forth unlimited access to exclusive content only to Sprint subscribers.
Believe it or not, Sprint was in talks w/ the streaming back in April of 2015 so this isn’t quite out of the blue as we might think. No word on what else the partnership will include but more details on the upcoming offers will be made public soon. Also, the deal does make Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure a member of Tidal’s board of directors, though.
Quite the interesting move as I would have pegged any other carrier other Sprint making this move but good job nonetheless. What’re your thoughts on this new partnership?
