Yesterday, T-Mobile announced its faster LTE-U has already starting rolling out in select parts of the US. This is part of the 5GHz band of spectrum as well as part of the LTE Advanced standard which pumps out faster speeds.
So if you live in Bellevue, WA or Brooklyn, NY or Dearborn , MI or Las Vegas, NV or Richardson, TX or Simi Valley, CA; you’re good to go. You’ll also have to have a T-Mo Samsung Galaxy S8 (which is currently the only device that can take advantage of it).
T-Mobile has also successfully tested an even faster version of LTE-U called LAA or License Asissted Access that also uses the 5GHz band but cranked out download speeds up to 741 Mbps. So T-Mo is kicking things off slowly but time will tell which carrier truly rolls out 5G 1st.
