oneplus 5 officialLike we mentioned earlier today, the OnePlus 5 is now official and here.  Sidenote: it might be time for companies to stop using leaks to hype up their launches.  Anyways, this is shaping up to one of their most premium phones as of yet -despite looking like an iPhone 7.

The OnePlus 5 offers an unibody design made of brushed aluminum w/ a slim 7.25mm profile + rounded corners.  It has a 5.5inch 1080p AMOLED display w/ 16:9 aspect ratio, powered by a Snapdragon 835 CPU, choice of 6GB or 8GB of RAM, storage up to 128GB, headphone jack, USB-C, and a 3300 mAh battery w/ their faster Dash Charge which offers a day’s power in a half an hour.

The OnePlus 5 doesn’t appear to be a flagship killer but striving to be a competitor.

The new Oxygen OS running on top of Android 7.1 Nougat as they made to add some cool gestures support into the mix.  You can now flip the phone face down to mute notifications, a 3-finger tap to do a screenshot & the ability to auto-scroll the rest of the page w/ one button, and the ability to draw gestures on the display to open up to 5 different apps.  You also got a reading mode and DO Not Disturb option for when you are gaming.

The main shooter is a f/1.7 16MP Sony sensor & the 2nd sensor is a f/2.6 20MP Sony sensor that acts like a telephoto lens that offers 2x optical zoom.  You can use both lenses in Portrait Mode to get that DLSR-like bokeh which focuses on the subject & blurs out the background.  Offering up a new Pro mode to really take advantage of manual options & features for its new shooters.  OnePlus claims that this is the highest resolution dual-camera system out today.

You also have a f/2.0 16MP front-facing ‘selfie’ camera too.  Hopefully, they focused on the quality of that as well.  Unfortunately, they appeared to miss out on key features like 240fps slow motion (only 120fps at 720p) and optical image stabilization in 4K though.

The OnePlus 5 starts at $479 for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage & $539 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage option starting on June 27th.  It will be available in Midnight Black & Slate Grey color options at launch.

Orders have just gone live for a limited time via an ‘Early Drop’.  To get one, you’ll need the code: Clearer Photos.  So that OnePlus laid all of their cards on the table, are you getting one?
