Google announced a rebranding for their smartwatch name/OS.  So, say goodbye to Android Wear and say hello to Wear OS by Google.  This was rumored to happen for a few days now and it is now a reality.

The reason: to cater to more iPhone users as the Apple Watch touts 33 million users while Android Wear Wear OS has about 10 million.  Google states one in every 3 new Android Wear owners has an iPhone.  Fossil concurs by stating most of their smartwatch users have an iPhone as well.  I’m curious to see w/ the name change will bring forth more features to work more fluid w/ the iPhone.

The name change is just in time for Baselworld (the biggest watch trade show) next week, so expect Fossil & other companies to announced several new Wear OS smartwatches.  Curious to see if any new features will come to Android side as well.

Thoughts on the new name or are you unfazed by it all?
