Last week, Sonos sent out invites to an upcoming press event on June 6th out in San Francisco. The invite, as you can see above, shows a table w/ a bunch of TV remotes and says ‘You’re better than this’. Sonos already has the Playbase as their $700 home theater option (review is coming BTW) as this might be an upgrade to that.
Interestingly enough, Sonos recently registered a new home theater smart speaker w/ the FCC as it would offer HDMI output & mics for voice control. We expect Alexa support and Google Assistant coming sometime later after launch like they did w/ the Sonos One smart speaker.
With the hope of replacing your remotes, we can assume there will be far-field mics onboard to really hear you over the music to control your home theater. We’re about a month out so we got more time to see what they’ll be coming up with.
