In case you were unaware or unaffected, Apple has been having issues w/ their butterfly mechanisms on the 2015 to newest MacBook and the 2016 to newest MacBook Pro.  Apple is finally addressing the issue and is offering an extended keyboard service program for those of you affected by it.

The warranty would cover replacements for one key to the entire keyboard depending on the severity of the issue.  It will cover eligible laptops up to 4 years after the MacBook/MacBook Pro was bought.  The program will cover:

  • Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
  • Letters or characters do not appear
  • Keys feel sticky or do not respond in a consistent manner

These issues have been on the top of complaints for MacBook users for some time now.  Good to see Apple finally addressing the issue but the question is: did they already know about it like #bendgate?  If there’s no documentation, we may never know.

Is your MacBook/MacBook Pro keys giving you issues?
