Back in 2014, Amazon took a shot at smartphones w/ the Fire Phone.  It came and went but that was a different Amazon than the one in 2018.  This is now a smarter & more successful company & leadership behind it.   So w/ that said, it looks they may be trying the phone market again w/ a new device.

According to the folks over at The Wrap, Amazon Studios executive Jen Salke was asked about a new phone from the company.  She said she’s been using the new prototype phone w/ a new interface as it is in her office.  The interface is intuitive as well as currently being developed and is coming soon.

The Fire Phone offered a 4.7inch 720p display w/ a 3D UI courtesy of its 4 front-facing cameras + gyroscope, X-Ray (Amazon’s pre-cursor to Google Lens), and 24-hour customer support Mayday service.  It offered all of that & direct access to all of Amazon’s apps/services in a phone.  It didn’t do too well as it was out for a year and then scrapped.

This could turn out to be a new UI for services or an actual phone to go along w/ it.  We’ll keep an ear out to see if this develops into anything further.
