While it may have been speculated, we didn’t really know if Google was gonna refresh the Chromecast for their Made By Google event.  Over the weekend over on Reddit, someone bought the 3rd-gen Chromecast from their local Best Buy.

The redditor went to grab regular Chromecast but picked up a slightly different-looking one for the retailer.  It was so new that it wasn’t even in their system to purchase as it was flagged in their system to be sold on the 9th.  The bad news is that the user won’t be able to use it until Google updates the Home app on or sometime after October 9th.  The new one looks to have a Matte Finish w/ a ‘G’ logo, being a bit thicker, & retaining a microUSB port but ditching the magnetic clasp.

The new Chromecast is said to add Bluetooth features to what it already does.  We’ll have to wait until the 9th to see if it will have more tricks up its sleeve.  The Chromecast is the staple of Google Cast feature to stream content from phones/computers to your TVs.  So much so that it is now a must-have feature whether you’re using Google’s or Amazon’s cast-based streaming.
