So yeah, you read the headline correctly.  Microsoft is currently rumored to be working on a disc-less version of the Xbox One.  This would be a budget-friendly Xbox One console that would still offer many of the goodies just no disc.    Let dive into some of the details of this rumor.

According to the folks over at Thurrott.com, Microsoft has plans to drop a version of the Xbox One S minus the disc drive.   This would allow the company to sell consoles for a cheaper price point.  This would have this modified version of the One S cost less than $200.  Also, Microsoft Stores would allow users to trade-in physical discs for a digital download via their Xbox Live account.

This wouldn’t be a part of their upcoming next-gen console launch set for 2020 but would probably arrive sometime in 2019.  But w/o the disc drive, you wouldn’t have 4K Blu-Ray support that normal Xbox One S owners have though.  But it would still retain 4K streaming of movies & HDR gaming feature.  Just not the high-end all 4K stuff that the Xbox One X offers though.

So who’d be interested in a cheaper, disc-less Xbox One S next year?
