Welp. There goes Apple’s reign for their customers privacy. As you can add to the list of their recent f*ckups over the past year or 2. Yesterday, a bug was found on iPhones using iOS 12.1 that uses FaceTime.

This bug allows users to call somebody via FaceTime and listen to their phone’s microphone regardless of whether the person you’re calling picks up. The bug requires that your device support Group FaceTime which appears to be the culprit. But this doesn’t just affect iPhones but Macs using FaceTime as well.
In the meantime, Apple has completely disabled the Group FaceTime feature as a whole for both iOS & macOS. We’re expecting them to roll out a software update to fix the matter before the end of the week. But in the meantime, if you don’t feel comfortable w/ the FaceTime app. You can disable it as well on your end. Here’s how for both iPhones, iPads, & Macs.
iPhone Users:
- Go to the Settings app
- Scroll to “FaceTime”
- Toggle “FaceTime off”
Mac Users:
- Open the FaceTime app
- Go to the menu, and click on “FaceTime”
- Go to “Preferences”
- Uncheck “Enable this account”
or
- Go to the menu, and click on “Turn FaceTime off”
We’ll let you know when the fix goes live for you hardcore FaceTime users out there.
