So earlier today, Sony announced a refresh to the a6000-line aimed directly for creators w/ the a6400 mirrorless camera.  So at 1st glance, you might think this might be just minor refresh form Sony w/ a new name & SKU- but it s a little bit more than that.

a6500 body + a9 brain + a5100 screen + new tricks = a6400

So the a6400 borrows a bit from Sony’s past as well as from their higher-end line of mirrorless full-frame shooters.  So it retains the body from the a6500 w/ custom buttons, pop-up flash, microphone jack, USB-power to charge and all of that.  Then it adds a 180-degree flip up touchscreen display, the BIONZ X image processor from the a9, 11fps continuous shooting + 8fps silent continuous shooting, ISO up to 32,000 for both photo/video, magnesium alloy body for dust/moisture resistance, and real-time tracking that utilizes the world’s fastest auto-focus of 0.02 seconds + 425 AF points w/ AI to track people, objects, and even animal eyes.

You got a newer 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor capable of 4K w / HDR + S-Log 2/3 support and 120fps slow-motion in 1080p.  They made sure to cover the needs of many w/ this one.  I’m sure Sony left out a headphone jack & in-body image stabilization to differiate between the mid-level a6000s and the higher-end A7/A9 shooters.

You can grab it starts next month for $900 for the body only, w/ a 18-35mm kit lens for $1,000, and w/ a 18-135mm lens for $1,300.  Will you be adding this to your wishlist to pick up or pass?
