Yesterday, T-Mobile announced a change in its unlimited data plans. So say goodbye to T-Mobile One and hello to T-Mobile Magenta. Other than being affected by Netflix new pricing, this is a good thing.
Here are three notable changes to be aware of:
- New name. Because who doesn’t love magenta.
- More benefits. Magenta adds 3GB of high-speed smartphone hotspot – or tethering – per line and unlimited 3G tethering thereafter. That’s another $3 in value per line. T-Mobile ONE had no LTE hotspot. Because 72% of consumers prefer using a hotspot to public Wi-Fi.
- Netflix on Us changes. To account for the Netflix price increase earlier this year, Magenta includes Netflix Basic for families. Existing T-Mobile ONE customers with Netflix on Us that includes Netflix Standard will see the Netflix price change of $2 per month for Netflix Standard passed through starting in July. To avoid that, those customers can either turn off Netflix on Us or change to Magenta.
Keep in mind that if you go to Magenta Plus, you’ll keep the standard Netflix access. As well as the older T-Mobile One Plus benefits of HD video streaming, 20GB of LTE hotspot, faster data overseas, and free Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi.
The new Magenta plans kick off on June 2nd. When it kicks off, T-Mo will have a Discount Match promo where they will match any discounts from competitors. You’ll only get up to $15 off a single line and $30 off of a family plan in $5 increments. You have that along w/ trade-in promos, they’re really trying to sweeten the deal.
Any T-Mo One users looking forward to switching over or anyone from another carrier coming to T-Mo?
