Google continues to keep things interesting as we get a little bit closer to the presumed October launch event.  Earlier today, they announced more official details on what the front camera + sensors will be doing.  And it will be a lot compared to any other device they put out.

So as you can see from the image above, it is armed to the gills w/ sensors.  You got the standard front-facing camera, ambient light/proximity sensor, 2 face unlock IR cameras, face unlock dot projector, face unlock flood illuminator, and a Soli radar chip.

I hope the Face Unlock is good cause Google may have ditched the fingerprint reader completely.

So all of these sensors will bring Google to or close to Apple’s Face ID  rather than just using the front-facing camera.  It will allow you to use the Pixel 4 to unlock your device and bypass the lockscreen instead of still having to swipe up like on the iPhone.  It will work in any orientation as well as upside-down and secure payment/app authentication.  This all works w/ the Soli radar chip as well.   And speaking of which…

It will power the new gesture controls called Motion Sense.  This will allow you to navigation as well as turn things on/off like skipping songs, snoozing alarms, silencing calls and more – hands-free.  These are supposed to be initial launch as more abilities will come to Motion Sense over time.  Hopefully it won’t be as sensitive as LG’s was on the G8 ThinQ.

So what do you think about the new Pixel 4 details?  Is any of this enticing you to buy one more than before?
