We talked about this device a few weeks back when we just had images on it and now its been officially announced. Say hello to the LG G8X ThinQ. Yes, these names are becoming a mouthful.
This might be better than the G8 ThinQ is some ways.
As you can see it almost looks like a folding phone but its not. They’re taking the same dual display accessory from the LG V50 ThinQ. We’ll get to that part in a moment. Let’s talk about the phone itself for a minute. It offers a 6.4inch OLED display w/ 2340 x 1080 resolution, Snapdragon 855 CPU, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage expandable via microSD, an IP68 dust/water-resistant body, running Android 9 Pie, an in-display fingerprint reader (a 1st for LG), a dedicated Google Assistant button, headphone jack w/ a 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC, stereo speakers, and a 4000 mAh battery w/ wireless charging + Fast Charge 4.0.
In regards to its shooters, it touts a dual camera setup on the rear and a single selfie camera within its notch. On the rear you have a f/1.8 12MP standard sensor + a f/2.4 13MP super wide angle sensor. In the front you have a 32MP selfie sensor that defaults to 8MP photos. Outside of that you got better image stabilization overall, the ability to switch between front + back camera when recording video, a new AI Action Shot to catch fast-moving subjects by kicking up the shutter speed to 1/480 of second, and a new ASMR mode that makes the mics more sensitive to capture audio from a whisper.
Now onto that 2nd display. It utilizes a case to dock the 2 panels together. Once its in the case, the 2nd screen is activated. Did we mention that they both have notches? Well they do. You can use both screens at the same time w/ native LG apps like use one screen for Gmail and the other as a fullscreen keyboard. Out side of that, other app can only use one screen at a time.
The LG G8X ThinQ is due out sometime later this year. We still don’t know what the pricing will look like or if it will even come to the US or not.
Is this something you’d be interested in picking up?
