After being quiet to being bombarded w/ leaks, Google has made their 4th-generation Pixel smartphones official. Outside of the usual of improved internals, we got an extra camera and a few new software features added to the mix.
Pixel 4: More RAM, more cameras, more AI.
The smaller Pixel 4 offers a 5.7inch 1080p display + 2800 mAh battery while the larger Pixel 4 XL has a 6.3inch QHD display + 3700 mAh battery. Both versions will offer a fast 90Hz Smooth Display + Ambient EQ panel (from their Home Hub products), be powered by a Snapdragon 855 CPU, 6GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB storage options, stereo speakers, fast USB-C wired + wireless charging, IP68 dust/water-resistant, still support Active Edge, and a new Titan M security module inside.
On the software side of things, we got stock Android 10 but w/ new goodies that will be Pixel exclusives. Like the new lightning-fast version of Google Assistant, new sensors for their version of Face ID called Face Unlock to replace the fingerprint reader, a new Recorder app for voice notes, adds new safety features that will call 911 if it detects that you were in a car accident, and new radar sensors to support gesture control to answer calls/skip songs/snooze alarms/etc.
Now for the part everyone wants to know about: the cameras. The main shooter gets better w/ a f/1.7 12MP DualPixel sensor and adds a f/2.4 16MP telephoto sensor capable of 2x zoom (a combination of optical + digital). On the selfie side, you got a f/2.0 8MP sensor on the front side of things. Google switched up their dedicated image processor w/ their new Pixel Neural Core. The new shooters bring forth new software to go along w/ it like an updated Camera UI, a new Motion mode for action or sports shots, an astrophotography mode to capture the stars at night, and an improved version of NightSight.
The Pixel 4 is set to arrive in 3 colors of Black, White, & the Orange color. The standard 4 will start at $799 for the 64GB and the larger 4 XL will start at $899 for the 64GB model. Pre-orders kick off today and will go on sale on 10/24 for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, US Cellular, Google Fi, Spectrum Mobile, Visible, and Xfinity Mobile,
