You heard the news, its correct. Google is buying Fitbit for $2.1 billion and will be absorbing the company like they did w/ Nest a few years back. There was a rumor earlier this week that this was going to happen but we had no idea it will come about so quickly.
This might be why the Pixel Watch kept getting pushed back.
This means Google’s Wear OS and their own smartwatches will get better & more accurate health tracking features. As well as Fitbit’s wearables will get better software and Google Assistant integration for a better smartwatch experience. This will probably mean the Fitbit name & products may eventually fade away and just be Google or some other branding on them. For those of you Fitbit users concerned about your data/privacy, Google says that your Fitbit health and wellness data will not be used for Google ads.
So for those of you wishing and waiting for an actual smartwatch made by Google (like a Pixel Watch of sorts), its still happening and probably got even better. Now I’m curious to see what their 1st product combining the 2 companies will look like.
Thoughts on it all?
