Its December so Qualcomm is ready to get everyone excited for 2020 Android phones at their Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii.  We got not one but 2 high-end processors w/ the Snapdragon 865 & the Snapdragon 765.

Both chipsets support 5G so they’ll be ready for whenever the US carriers offer larger coverage for their faster 5G networks.  The 865 will be the flagship one while the 765 will be a more powerful mid-range while still offering 5G access + speed.

So let’s start things off w/ the 865 CPU and all the new features it will offer:

  • Speeds up to 7.5Gbps
  • Support for all the different 5G networks
  • Support 4K @60Hz or QHD+ @144Hz refresh rate
  • Supports up to 8K video @30fps and 200MP photos
  • Supports Dolby Vision capture
  • GPU is 25% better
  • Supports Desktop Forward Rendering, a Game Smoother, boosts color saturation, 10-bit HDR, & GPU drivers can be updated via Google Play
  • Wi-Fi 6
  • Bluetooth 5.1

Now moving onto the other speedy chip, the 765 CPU ain’t no slouch either as it has a lot to offer as well.  It will offer:

  • Speeds up to 3.7Gbps however the 5G speeds will be better here due to the 5G modem being directly integrated on the CPU
  • Support for all the different 5G networks
  • Support 4K @60Hz or QHD+ @60Hz refresh rate
  • Supports up to 4K HDR video w/ Portrait Mode and 192MP photos
  • GPU is 20% better
  • Supports a Game Smoother, Game Fast Loader, & Game Network Latency Manager
  • Wi-Fi 6
  • Bluetooth 5.0

So you can definitely expect the Galaxy S11, G9, & other early 2020 flagships/devices to be armed w/ these chips.  Very interested to see how much of their power they take advantage of.

Thoughts?
