Earlier today, Google dropped their developer preview for the next version of their mobile OS: Android 11 or Android R.  Of course it will be officially called Android 11 as they deaded the letter and dessert names last year.

Check out the list of the more interesting additions coming to the platform.

  • Dark Theme can now be scheduled
  • Chathead-like conversation UI called Bubbles which was introed for Android 10 but delayed to Android 11
  • Access ongoing conversations & image sharing – all within the notification shade
  • New Motion Sense gesture for the Pixel 4
  • One-time location permission so you should see that pop-up a lot less
  • Screen recording
  • Scrolling screenshot tools
  • Better support for different screen sizes
  • 5G support built-in system wide for better experiences
  • Better biometric support
  • Improvements to call screening
  • You can now mute vibration from ringtones, alarms or notifications within the camera app
  • New Bokeh mode within the camera app
  • Can improve touch sensitivity when using screen protectors

There’s still more & more details being revealed as we’ll be updating this post as more comes to light.  The preview for Android 11 is out now for developers via manual download or flash.  We’ll have to wait a bit for the preview to become available via OTA on Android Beta.

Do any of these new features sound interesting to you?
