In a weird turn of events, Google appears to have gone back to the beloved naming  of their software updates after desserts.  Even though they pretty much skipped last year for Android Q, this is year’s will be Red Velvet Cake.

In case you didn’t know, the naming idea goes all the back to 2009 w/ the Android 1.5 Cupcake update.  It went on until about 2018 and it appears to have returned.  This bit of info comes from the All About Android interview w/ Android’s VP of engineering, Dave Burke over on YouTube.  Oddly enough, Burke did reveal that last year’s Android Q did have an internal name (Quince Tart) and an official name (Queen Cake?).

Even though we’re on v2.5 of the Android 11 Beta, Burke revealed that there are still plenty of features that we have yet to see.  One can assume that they’re saving them for the official release which is said to arrive within the next 2 or 3 months.  So plan accordingly.
