So we already knew that the next-gen Xbox Series X from Microsoft was on the way for the holidays.  We also knew of the slightly lower-tier console existing as well w/ the Xbox Series S.  After recent leaks, Microsoft decided to get ahead of it & make it official via Twitter.

As you can see from the image above, the Series S resembles that of the Xbox One S but w/ the design language of the Series X – but a lot smaller though.  I’m not a big fan of the black disc for the fan vents but that’s just me.  We did notice the lack of an optical drive for physical games as this would mean a bigger push for Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service.

As far as pricing is concerned, Microsoft confirmed it at $299.  This aligns w/ the leaks as the folks over at Windows Central adds more details behind it.  Their intel aligned w/ the same $299 price point but adds a $25 per month Xbox All Access plan as the Series X will cost $499 & will be $35 monthly.  The Xbox All Access plan is subscription format to pay off your new console as it includes Xbox Live + Game Pass as well.

This would make sense as the Series S would ditch the 4K gaming support for a cheaper price point while still offering more powerful internals.  The Series S is supposed to offer 2K gaming @120fps, 4K media playback as well as 4K game upscaling, ray tracing, & 512GB SSD. Both consoles are rumored to launch on November 18th so that gives you a few short months to get ready for them if you’re not already.
