So when Google unveiled their future plans for Google Photos, we thought their Pixel phones were still good to utilize free unlimited storage in Photos.  Apparently, that thought was too good to be true.

Yesterday, Google confirmed that the only Pixels that will retain the ‘high quality’ backups in Photos will be all of the models to current ( 1st Pixel to the Pixel 5).  This means that the Pixel 5a & Pixel 6 won’t have the option for free anymore.  So like everyone else who needs more storage, you’re gonna have to pay for it via Google One storage.

The upside is that Google doesn’t charge what Apple does for iCloud.   I’m currently paying $20 annually for 100GB shared across Drive, Gmail, & Photos.  Google also throws in perks lie hotel savings & free VPN for those paying for more storage to name a few.

So will this bit of news be a dealbreaker for Pixel users moving forward?  Especially when the competition is catching up to their photo quality.  Its like one less thing to enjoy about the Pixel.
