Tamron just unveiled a new prime zoom lens for Sony’s APS-C E-Mount shooters.  Introducing the new f/2.8 17-70mm Di III-A VC RXD lens due out on January 14th for $799.

This is the 1st of its kind in regards to this zoom range of 4.1x zoom w/ a lower f/2.8 aperture that goes up to f/22.  You got 9 aperture blades and a moisture-resistant build that is 4.7inches long (when wide + 15.4inches telephoto) & weighs in at 18.5oz.

Tamron armed it w/ their VC mechanism that also utilizes AI to maximize image stabilization, and their RXD (Rapid Xtra-silent stepping Drive) motor to be on the quieter side when shooting video.  This will even take advantage of Sony’s auto-focus features like Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF.  You got a 7.5inch minimum object distance and 17-70mm converts to 25-105mm on a full-frame setup for those of you using an A7 series shooter are interested.

So as long as the pandemic doesn’t get any more out of control, this new Tamron glass will be out next month.  Is this the perfect zoom range + aperture combo you’ve been waiting for?
