Earlier today, Panasonic unveiled their latest shooter w/ the Lumix GH5 II.   This continues their Micro Four-Third venture in a damn-near mirrorless + medium format world.  Now on the surface is may sound like a mild update but its a definitely more than that.

The GH5 II offers a magnesium-alloy body that’s slightly heavier due to its larger 2200 mAh battery, dual SD card slots, a 3inch swiveling LCD monitor w/ 1,840 dot w/ 120Hz refresh rate that’s 1.5x brighter than the GH5, and it also has a OLED LVF for those who prefer shooting like that.

The GH5 II touts a 20.3MP Digital Live MOS sensor w/ a new anti-reflective coating, the latest Venus Engine image processor, improved in-body image stabilization, the addition of advanced deep learning technology for eye/face/body detection for autofocus, capable of 10-bit 4:2:2 4K up to 30fps, regular 4K up to 60fps, and a new 10-bit 4:2:0 Anamorphic 4K @50fps.  It can also simultaneously record 4K for internal + external shooting as well.  You got a new Black & White color profiles in L. Classic Neo + L. Monochrome S that can be used for Anamorphic video recording.

Panasonic added a new ability to control the focus of the lens.  So you can set it to either linear or non-linear focus but will only work on Panasonic G series lenses though.  Also new is the new livestream feature which will allow you to stream to platforms like IG, Twitch, & YouTube.  It will utilize Bluetooth + Wi-Fi to pull this off as it can connect to your phone/tablet via their Lumix Sync software to be more helpful.

But Panasonic wasn’t just done w/ that GH5 II, they also teased the GH6 as well.  This will be a Micro Four-Thirds version of their S1H shooter but w/ a new 5.7K sensor w/o any pixel binning & a new processing engine.

It will have be capable of up to 5.7K @60fps + 10-bit, 4K @60fps +10-bit w/ unlimited recording, & 4K @120fps + 10-bit.  Like the GH5 II, it will have a new & improved auto-focus system.  Look for a slow/quick motion video w/ high + variable frame rate as well.  It will support anamorphic shooting, external recording, & various aspect ratios.  Those of you interested, the GH6 is set to arrive in late 2021 for $2,500.
