Well, today is Samsung Unpacked and bring forth their flagships for the top half of 2022 w/ the Galaxy S 22 lineup. Bringing us what we already knew was coming w/ the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Let’s break down all the specs & features Samsung will have to offer us.
Kicking things off w/ the S22 & the S22+, as per usual, there are a lot of similarities between the 2 devices along w/ some differences as well. It refines the look/design from last year but beefs the internals a bit. The S22 offers a 6.1inch AMOLED display, offers a 3700 mAh battery w/ fast wired + Qi wireless charging while the S22+ offers a 6.6inch AMOLED display, offers a 4500 mAh battery w/ fast wired + Qi wireless charging.
Both of these offer a glass & metal frame, 2340 x 1080p resolution w/ 10-120Hz variable refresh rate, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, 8GB of RAM + up to 256GB of storage, f/1.8 50MP main sensor w/ OIS, f/2.2 12MP ultrawide, and a f/2.4 10MP telephoto w/ OIS + 3x optical zoom + 30x space zoom, f/2.2 10MP under display selfie camera, capable of recording video in 8K@24fps, 4K@60fps w/ auto-framing, auto fps for better low-light, & portrait night shots, stereo speakers w/ Dolby Atmos, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, and an IP68 body.
Now for the big boy, the Galaxy S22 Ultra w/ an S Pen. Yes, an S Pen. I think its safe to say the Note is officially dead. The overall look mirrors that of the S21 Ultra from last year but more refined. The S22 ultra touts a 6.8inch AMOLED display w/ 3088 x 1440 resolution + variable refresh rate of 10-120Hz, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, up to 12GB of RAM + 1TB of storage, glass & metal frame, an IP68 rated body, stereo speakers w/ Dolby Atmos, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, and a 5000 mAh battery w/ fast wired + wireless charging.
As regards to its shooters, it has a f/1.8 108MP main sensor w/ OIS + laser auto focus, f/2.2 12MP ultrawide, f/2.4 10MP telephoto w/ OIS + 3x optical zoom, and a f/4.9 10MP telephoto w/ OIS + 10x optical + 100x space zoom. And on the other side, you got a f/2.2 40MP under display selfie camera capable of 4K@60fps as well. You’ll also be able to record video up to 8K@24fps as well as 4K@60fps, auto framing, auto fps for better low-light, & portrait night shots.
One of the many standout camera features is Super Clear Glass. This created to potentially reduce glare/dots at night. That’s always helpful as that has been an issue to plague Samsung’s cameras for night shots/videos. Then you have improved depth mapping for better portrait mode results to better separate subject form the background including individual strands of hair. And last but not least, Expert RAW. This allows for multi-frame capture of RAW shooting along w/ manual controls for ISO + shutter speed as well.
And last but not least is the S Pen. Yes, it will include an internal silo for the S22 Ultra to house the S Pen just like on the Note line. You got a 2.8 millisecond latency, better handwriting recognition, and support for S Pen air actions. So this will be a true Note experience here and not just the added S Pen like on the Z Fold 3.
Pre-orders kick off today and will be available on February 25th. The S22 starts at $800, the S22+ goes for $1,000, & the S22 Ultra goes for $1,200. Those of you who pre-order or have done so already will get an upgrade to the next storage option along up to $200 in Samsung credit depending on which model. you go with, and 25% off of any Galaxy Tab S8 device.
So there you have it. Everything you need to know about them. Are you grabbing one and if so which one?
