In a world where our lives are centred around technology, our phones have become an extension of our bodies. As better and more up to date technology is being packed into our phones, the prices continue to rise. That’s why it’s important to take care of your phone as you would a pet or a child. Here’s some tips to increase the longevity of your phone and keep it in the best condition possible (because when upgrade day comes it’s always good to make some extra cash selling your old phone).

Increase your battery life

We all use our phones so often that most of us need to charge up by the end of the day, if not before. However, did you know that draining your battery down is actually bad for battery health? Aiming to charge in small and partial cycles and where possible, use the charger that came with the phone at all times. Your battery health will last longer and you’ll get much longer screen time than you would have before.

Not only that, refrain from leaving your phone on charge overnight. While most smartphones stop charging once they’re fully charged, it can lead to battery degradation. Your best bet is to wait until it’s fully charged and then unplug it. If you’re worried about your battery depleting too much over night, pop it in low power or aeroplane mode and you shouldn’t lose much.

Save your phone from water damage

We’ve all experienced that moment of dread as we watch our phone tumble into the sink, down the loo, or even fly out of our pocket at the beach. Don’t panic! All might not be lost!  While it’s important to keep your phone off as much as possible, you could try this hack as soon as possible to help expel the water from your phone. Head to the fix my speaker website and press the play button, and make sure your volume is turned up for this! It plays a series of sounds which expels the water from your phone’s speakers. If you’ve got your volume all the way up, the vibrations from the sound being played will help get as much water out of your phone as possible.

Invest in a waterproof case

If you’ve ever experienced your phone getting wet, or you just used the hack above, it’s time to invest in a waterproof case. While phones in this day and age are water resistant, you could be wasting hundreds on your phone if you don’t protect it now.

Give it a regular clean

Have you ever noticed that over time your speakers don’t sound quite the same, and your microphone isn’t as clear as it used to be? The answer to this is simple – it’s from regular use and being in our pockets where lint can enter these small holes in our phones. Grab yourself a phone cleaning kit and spend some time clearing out your speakers, your mic, your charging port and give your phone a wipedown with an antibacterial wipe. You’ll notice that your speakers are louder and your mic may sound better!
