During Google’s Made By Google event earlier this week and amongst all of the new Pixel products for 2025, there was a quick, blink-and-you-miss-it tease of a new Gemini-powered smart speaker in use. According to the folks over at Android Headlines, this smart speaker is real and nearly ready for launch.

As you can see in the image above, the upcoming smart speaker resembles a wider HomePod mini with a fabric finish and glowing light ring around its base. Android Headlines claimed to have seen four additional color options: red, green, black, and white. Now the more interesting part of the report is that it has the ability to pair with a Google TV Streamer for spatial TV audio along with full Matter support, natural voice options, can detect out-of-the-ordinary sounds like a smoke alarm and broken glass, and has Gemini Live support.

Coincidentally, Google announced in a blog earlier this week that Gemini (or Gemini for Home) would replace Google Assistant in its aging smart displays and speakers with both free and paid options, and early access beginning this October. This would be a welcome update, as the last Google smart speaker arrived back in 2021 and is showing its age with slower response times for Google-based queries.

Having owned just about every Google smart speaker and display, I’m looking forward to seeing what Gemini brings to the table along with this new speaker. I did need a reason to upgrade my Chromecast to the latest Google TV Streamer anyways.
