While Apple’s already hard at work on its foldable iPhone, the company is already looking into an alternative folding phone design. This information is courtesy of Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who suggests Apple is considering a smaller, clamshell-style folding phone, which would be similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 or Motorola Razr phones.
Apple’s clamshell foldable is said to be a potential follow-up to its larger folding phone. But keep in mind that Gurman says that this device is only under consideration and is far from coming to market. This could all change if its first foldable is a success. Coincidentally, back in 2024, The Information reported that the smaller folding design was originally considered one of the prototypes when the company was deciding on the foldable form factor it would start with.
However, Apple appeared to have landed on the phablet-like design for its initial foldable. The larger ‘iPhone Fold’ is anticipated to be unveiled later this fall. It’s suggested to resemble two iPhone Airs with a creaseless OLED screen and have a 5.5-inch outer screen that opens to a 7.8-inch display.
