Earlier this week, during AMD’s latest earnings call, CEO Lisa Su may have unintentionally revealed details about the next Xbox. Su stated, ‘The development of Microsoft’s Next-Gen Xbox featuring a semi-custom AMD chip is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.’
This isn’t an official announcement but rather reflects Microsoft’s current goal. The timeline could change for various reasons, but if it does, the ongoing low supply of RAM and storage might be a factor.
In June, Microsoft discussed its partnership with AMD to develop a ‘portfolio of devices, including the next-generation Xbox.’ Many speculate that this could lead to a new handheld gaming console from Microsoft, competing with the ROG Ally and Steam Deck, and possibly a new Xbox console. We already expect the next-gen Xbox to function like a full PC, capable of running both PC and Xbox games.
If you didn’t know, AMD supplies gaming chips for both Microsoft and Sony consoles, as well as the chips inside Valve’s Steam Deck and upcoming Steam Machine, which has been delayed. This aligns with earlier reports indicating new consoles from Microsoft and Sony could arrive in 2027.
