For a while now, we’ve heard rumblings of Apple’s smart home hub. The company has described it as its version of the Amazon Echo Show, or a HomePod speaker with an iPad mini attached. According to a recent report from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, it could be called the HomePad, arriving next month, and acting as an intelligent personal hub Apple CEO John Ternus described at the iPhone keynote.
The newest Siri AI will be at the core of its new OS, which will resemble a mashup of iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. Its square display will have a home screen, widgets, etc., and will use Face ID for authentication as well as identifying the user for personalized content (calendar appointments, apps, music, news). The HomePad will reportedly sync with your iPhone for the setup process and offer video calls, intercom features, and access to Apple’s native apps and services.
The new HomePad is anticipated to be announced with the new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini devices in October, with Siri AI at the heart of all the devices. For those of you who’re already using the new Siri AI, would you buy a smart display powered by it, or pass?
