While it’s been relatively quiet on the Android XR front, today hopes to change that. Meet the newest Android XR glasses, the XREAL AURA, unveiled today at Google’s Android Developer Summit. You can pre-order yours today if you live in the US, Canada, Japan, or South Korea. They will go on sale at Best Buy and will be available at select Google Store locations in the US and Japan. Pricing starts at $1,100 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option, with a limited-time offer at $1,300 for the 16GB RAM + 512GB storage setup. The limited-time offer goes on sale in mid-November.
The AURA is the company’s first wired, optical, see-through glasses powered by Android XR. It weighs under 95 grams. It offers 1200p HD visuals at a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 70-degree field of view, thanks to Sony’s micro-OLED display technology. It also uses Snapdragon Reality Elite and the company’s own X1S chips for processing and computing power. As with previous XREAL specs, the AURA uses Bose technology to handle its audio duties.
Now what can you do with these? You’ll be able to access Gemini in addition to Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, and whatever else from the Google Play Store. With its Wired Mirroring feature, you can easily mirror your phone, tablet, or mobile gaming console while on the go via USB-C. This also includes over 150 XR experiences, including immersive short films, puzzle games, and companion NBA and NASCAR apps. Also new are accompanying accessories, including an XREAL game controller made by GameSir, which includes a dedicated Gemini button for AI assistance while gaming.
