Although its $3,500 innovative Vision Pro didn’t quite take off as the company would’ve hoped, Apple will continue to innovate and enter new market categories. For all iPhone users awaiting Apple’s entry into the folding phone space, the wait could soon be over. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company’s first folding iPhone is set to launch in 2026.

Don’t expect Apple to reinvent the folding phone category, as it is said to offer a Galaxy Z Fold-like design with a foldable OLED screen, and it’s expected to cost at least $2,000. The company has been working with Samsung to supply the displays as Apple aims for a folding phone experience with a minimal crease on its inner display. Apple also desires to make its hinge mechanism as smooth and effective as possible, as many first folding phones are on the stiffer side. While aiming for a 2026 release date, iOS 27 will support exclusive software features made for its folding iPhone.

Previous rumors from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggest it could be the usual suspects in regard to your atypical folding phone specs and features. The ‘iPhone Fold’ could measure in at 9mm to 9.5mm thick when closed and 4.5mm to 4.8mm when opened, it could also have a 5.4 or 5.5-inch outer screen with a 7.8 or 8-inch inner screen, a Touch ID sensor on its Power button, a titanium build including its hinge, dual rear-facing 48MP cameras, a 24MP front-facing camera when folded, and another 24MP front-facing camera open. Details around things like color and storage options have yet to be revealed.

Now two questions remain: will the iPhone Fold, or whatever name Apple comes up with be a success, or will it require two or three iterations to get it right? And is this the iPhone you’ve been waiting to see?
