There have been rumblings of Apple shopping for some outside help to get Apple Intelligence up to snuff last fall. The company is already using ChatGPT to keep Siri useful, and it was rumored that Gemini would be the next addition to its ecosystem. The news of Apple adding Gemini was first confirmed by CNBC earlier today, and shortly afterwards, the news became official.
In a joint statement from both Apple and Google, a multi-year agreement was announced that will bring Gemini to power future Apple Intelligence features. Specifically, Gemini would be used to power Apple’s new version of Siri, along with other AI features set to arrive on Apple devices later this fall. Apple will reportedly use a custom version of Gemini on its Private Cloud Compute to handle upcoming tasks from Siri, Apple Intelligence, and other areas where Gemini will be utilized.
No update on whether this means Circle to Search, Magic Cue, or other Gemini-powered features will finally come to the iPhone. Maybe this signals the start of turning Apple Intelligence into a truly useful tool. Because not being able to download or copy answers from Siri is just unacceptable in 2026—especially for a company that introduced the first digital assistant and is now being left behind by competitors in every way.
