The name BMW is synonymous with speed and performance and has been that from its gasoline to EV vehicles over the years, while maintaining its ethos. The company has taken everything from their most recent iX3 SUV and brought it over to their newest EV sedan. This morning, BMW unveiled the redesigned i3 EV sedan, and it’s something we have to talk about.
The new i3 retains the same name as its electric hatchback but has been reintroduced as a new electric sedan. It’s inspired by the company’s Vision Neue Klasse designs, which include an evolution of the company’s iconic grille and headlights, and borrows the motors, battery, and technology from its iX3. It’s armed with motors on the front and rear, which output up to 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque.
The new i3’s interior offers a 17.9-inch Panoramic Vision display, which is angled towards the driver with a wireless charging pad and an optional 3D heads-up display. It is also powered by Amazon’s Alexa+ AI voice assistant, along with custom themes and images. The EV supports BMW’s Digital Key Plus to utilize your smartphone or smartwatch to open the doors or trunk.
It’s also utilizing the company’s sixth-gen eDrive technology, which is comprised of an 800-volt system and batteries with round cells. This feature brings up to 400 kW DC fast-charging, which can charge up to 250 miles in 10 minutes and features bidirectional Vehicle-to-Load, Vehicle-to-Home, and Vehicle-to-Grid charging.
The new BMW i3 is set to go on sale later this year, as the pricing has yet to be revealed. This looks amazing, and I’m seriously looking forward to what EVs are coming next from the company.
