Ultimate Ears easily out did themselves when they created & released the Boom speaker.  It is already beloved and hailed as one of the best Bluetooth speakers ever made.  So what happens when they up the ante and go even bigger.  Enter the UE Megaboom.

Announced earlier this year at CES, UE is going for an even bigger sound.  We've been demoing it for several months now to really get a good feel for it and we're finally ready to tell you all about it.  And here...we..go!

Design

The Megaboom goes w/ the old adage of if it ain't broke don't fix it.  Looking just like the the UE Boom but bigger.  Seeing the same weaved mesh for most of the speaker and everything-proof rubber is still in play and we're not complaining at all.  It is bigger than the regular Boom it still weighs just under 2lbs.  So its not as heavy as it looks.

It also retains being waterproof as it now IPX7 making it completely waterproof from top-to-bottom as opposed to its younger sibling.  So exactly how waterproof is it?  It can sit up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 mins.  Long enough to shower, play in the snow for a little bit or put in the sand at the beach.

Battery Life

UE touts over 20 hours of battery life and a ridiculous amount of  standby time which is amazing.  Between my wife and I using it only on weekends, we've only had to charge it only 2 times since using it since January.  There were times where we had a playlist weekend where it took a total of 24 hours to kills over the span of 2 days and only a little over 2 hours to charge fully.  Making this battery truly hard to kill, word to Steven Seagal.

Sound

With a name like Megaboom, you would expect a bigger + louder sound.  And succeed they did.  It retains the cylinder look to crank out 360-degrees of sound thanks in part to its 2 drivers + 2 massive passive radiators.  This combination gives you big sound w/ a great amount of clarity and good levels of bass & treble.  We tested some random playlists on Google Music, Pandora radio stations as well as the latest albums from Action Bronson & Kendrick Lamar.  If you already have a UE Boom or another Megaboom, you can pair the 2 for stereo sound for even bigger sound.

megaboom review grade

Easily the best Bluetooth speaker in the market, hands down.

TG 2 Cents

The Ultimate Ears team made sure you had zero trade-offs here.  Just good sound in a durable body.  This is not just your standard Bluetooth speaker as this offers a range of up to 100ft range.  It has NFC on board for easier pairing and can support up to 8 devices at 2 at a time.  It's pretty much life-proof while being able to crank out big sound.  When it comes to Bluetooth speakers, UE's speakers reigns supreme.  And the Megaboom is the new king.

To Buy Or Not To Buy

This is the best in class for Bluetooth sound but the $300 price point might not be in everyone's budget.  If this is you, just pick up the regular UE Boom as it is under $200 on places like Amazon.  Either way, you can't lose.
