Also at I/O 2016, big things are in the works for Android Auto. They’ve had quite a launch w/ over 100 vehicles & aftermarket stereos and available across 30 countries w/ local language support. It’s about to get a whole lot better and a lot easier to adapt the platform to your vehicle.
The future of Android Auto goes hands-free.
Kicking off the new features is the addition of the lovely Waze app coming to the platform. For those of you who don’t know, Waze allows you to navigate while seeing traffic alerts (construction, accident, police) and the cheapest gas in real-time thanks to their community of drivers. Easily a must-have for this platform.
Next up and minor announcements but still effective ones. Honda & Hyundai will be offering up their own custom Android Auto custom apps later this year. You’ll also be able to activate it by saying “OK, Google” as well.
And lastly, you’ll be able to use your smartphone as an alternative to having the Android Auto setup in your vehicle. With the Android Auto app, you can turn any smartphone running Android N into an Android Auto experience. Allowing you to access everything from voice calling, media, messaging, & navigation w/ a driver-friendly interface. Just put your phone on a dashboard mount and there you go.
Google is demoing all of this at I/O this year along w/ their concept car based on the Maserati Ghibli. The updates are set to arrive later this year as you can check out our take on the platform in its current state below.Who’s looking forward to the future of Android Auto?
