Looks like Apple might be joining the ‘me too’ in the Artificial Intelligence category. The latest reports suggest that they’re working on their version of the Echo & Google Home. The report actually comes from The Information as they will push the dial further into the AI space.
Yup, Apple wants their own smart Bluetooth speaker powered by Siri. Apparently, Apple has been working on this before the Echo launched allegedly. You would use the ‘Hey Siri’ prompt to activate music, turning on smart-connected ACs + lights, and more. In order for them to actually do this, Apple would have to open up Siri to 3rd-party developers.
It is an interesting move but not quite sure how well Siri will hold up against the rest of the AI competition on the market like Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft. Apple’s AI assistant is a bit limited in comparison to the rest of the crew but hey why not. Not sure if we’ll hear any additional news about it at WWDC or not but time will tell.
